There are a remarkable number of people around Ishikawa still clinging to traditional ways of life, crafting and creating in the same way their forefathers have for centuries. However, few have as much personality as nonagenarian umbrella maker Matsuda-san. He has been making wagasa, traditional paper parasols, for eight decades and has no plans to retire. Be sure to visit his tiny workshop – he says that each time he meets someone younger than him it keeps him alive for a little longer.
