Not far from the spectacular Kenroku-en, the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art displays artwork of a different kind. Exhibitions permanent and temporary can be found throughout the year – a perennial favourite is the Leandro Erlich’s Swimming Pool. Like all good modern galleries, the building itself is a piece of art too, with Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa’s design making the most of the light which spills in through its circular glass exterior.
