There are shrines and temples hidden up lanes and alleys all over central Kanazawa, most with pretty grounds and gardens. Of these, Oyama is one of the most important, located on a hill just outside the Kanazawa Castle grounds. First established in 1599, it was designated an Important Cultural Asset in 1950. Not far away, you’ll also find the Ozaki Shrine, while elsewhere in the city, look out for Myoryuji, also known as the Ninja Temple. If you don’t mind heading out town a little, be sure to see the spectacular Daijo-ji, too.
