This 400-year-old tea house is even older than Kanazawa’s famous Kenroku-en gardens nearby. There are gardens here, too, and an ancient pond and trees that seem to have out-lasted everything else. Visiting here feels like going back in time, but not to a staid museum – the onsite café is still thriving and the coffee is stronger than ever. If you’ve got more time (and money) the restaurant is great, too.
