The prefecture’s biggest celebration comes in the form of the Hyakumangoku Matsuri, a three-day bash in June which celebrates the arrival of the Maeda Clain to the area. Friday night sees dozens of lanterns – made from decorated silk – float down Kanazawa’s Asanogawa River, but the main festivities are reserved for the Saturday, when an all-day parade takes over the city. The celebrations also provide a great chance to see some traditional Noh theatre in the grounds of Kanazawa Castle. All weekend long, there are great photographs to be had.
