Japan’s national drink is made all over the country and for all the awards and hot-faced debate, no one can definitively say which brewer makes the best. To sake newcomers, perhaps it’s all a bit redundant – you could be forgiven for thinking that sake simply tastes like sake. However, if you trust the experts, then Ishikawa’s Kikuhime, made in Kaga, is not to be missed. The rice is actually imported from Hyogo prefecture, but the water comes straight from Mount Hakusan, making a memorable brew.
